An exterior construction elevator detached from a new hotel and sent five workers to the hospital at Turning Stone Resort Casino, according to CNY Central.
The accident happened Tuesday afternoon during work on the resort’s expansion in Verona. Officials said all five workers remained conscious, landed in stable condition, and will be discharged soon. Construction stayed isolated from guest areas.
Turning Stone Enterprises said the incident occurred while a subcontractor dismantled the elevator, not because of the building’s structure. The Oneida Indian Nation enforces building codes on site and oversees the project.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration plans to investigate alongside the contractors.
