A violent two-vehicle crash on a rural stretch of Route 90 left one person trapped inside a car shortly after noon.
Cayuga County 911 dispatched Genoa Rescue, Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Inc., and mutual aid from King Ferry Fire Department to NY 90 between East Venice Road and McAllister Road for a reported serious collision involving a truck and a car.
Car 2 arrived within four minutes and confirmed serious entrapment. Crews immediately requested an “all hands” response and asked Locke Fire & Rescue to help detour traffic.
Command also called for a medical helicopter. LifeNet of New York 7-12 accepted the mission.
Firefighters and medics jumped into patient care, stabilized the scene, and began extrication of the trapped occupant inside the car. Crews secured hazards on both vehicles while working.

The driver of the truck refused medical treatment at the scene.
Extrication finished about 30 minutes after dispatch. Crews moved the patient to a Southern Cayuga ambulance for transport.
Law enforcement and towing assist
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Morey’s Towing assisted at the scene. Once crews completed rescue operations, responders turned the scene over to state police.
Firefighters continued traffic control until about 4:45 p.m.
In a statement, the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department thanked its mutual aid partners for what it called an exceptional team effort.
