Hobart basketball rallies past RIT, Thompson earns 100th career win

The Hobart basketball team completed a Liberty League weekend sweep with an 81-74 comeback win over Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, giving Head Coach Stefan Thompson ’13 his 100th career victory. The Statesmen improved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Junior Alex Moesch led Hobart with a career-high 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including two 3-pointers, and went a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line. He added four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Junior Dorian Paki scored a career-best 21 points, highlighted by four two-handed dunks, and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Monty Nedd chipped in nine points, six rebounds and a game-high five assists, while Allen Mordi led the team with nine rebounds as Hobart controlled the boards 43-35.

RIT was paced by Josiah Turner’s game-high 27 points, including five 3-pointers. Mushin Muhammad added 15 points and nine rebounds, and Zac Ditzel contributed 10 points.

After trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, Hobart rallied behind a 10-0 run to reclaim the lead early in the second half. The Statesmen then outscored the Tigers 18-4 over a nine-minute stretch to seize control, hitting 23-of-25 free throws and taking a 15-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
