Geneva residents push back on park sale

Not one resident supported selling Loomis Woods during a packed Geneva City Council hearing, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Real estate investor Dan McGowan offered up to $1 million for the 15-acre park to build housing. But speakers called the land “priceless” and slammed the offer as “insulting.” Many cited the park’s ecological value and historical ties, including inspiration for painter Arthur Dove.

State law makes it tough to sell parkland without creating a replacement and getting legislative approval. Residents urged the city to improve Loomis Woods, not cash in on it.
