A small bathroom fire briefly shut down part of the Dryden school campus before classes resumed, according to the Dryden Central School District.
The fire broke out around noon Wednesday in a trash can inside a single-stall bathroom at the Dryden Middle School and Dryden High School campus. The Dryden Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames, but crews delayed reentry while technicians reset the fire alarm system.
Safety officials later cleared the building, calling it safe for occupancy. The affected bathroom will stay closed as state police continue investigating. All district schools reopened on time Thursday.
