A surge of police calls and steady jail activity kept the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office busy throughout December.
New monthly data released by the sheriff’s office shows deputies handled 14,948 police calls during the month. Dispatchers also fielded 1,730 EMS calls and 430 fire calls, highlighting the volume of emergencies moving through the county’s communications center.
The county jail reported a median daily population of 91 inmates in December. Deputies processed 100 admissions during the month, including 74 men and 26 women.
Staff also handled 61 arraignments and released 24 people on recognizance. Medical staff responded to 486 medical encounters involving inmates, underscoring ongoing healthcare demands inside the facility.
Deputies recorded 2,840 total sheriff’s office events in December. That activity included 103 total arrests and 524 traffic stops.
Ten of those arrests involved driving while intoxicated. Deputies also responded to 180 calls for service at Eastview Mall and worked 20 K-9 events.
Crash investigations made up a large portion of road activity. Deputies responded to 154 car-versus-deer crashes and 251 property damage motor vehicle accidents.
Forty-six crashes involved personal injuries. No fatal crashes were reported during the month.
The sheriff’s office also processed 21 pistol permit applications in December.
