NY toll evasion crackdown nets 170 cars

A statewide enforcement blitz hammered toll evaders and fake plates, according to the Ithaca Journal.

New York State Police issued more than 1,000 tickets and seized 170 vehicles during four days of crackdowns on the New York State Thruway Authority system and the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Nearly half the tickets involved license plate violations tied to so-called ghost plates.

Officials say toll evasion cost the Thruway Authority over $1 million from 2022 to 2024. Kathy Hochul said the effort targets repeat offenders and protects drivers who follow the rules.

Most vehicle seizures occurred at the Cuomo Bridge, with thousands in unpaid tolls already recovered.
