What’s on tap at Seneca County’s organizational meeting

Seneca County lawmakers will spend Monday night setting the tone for the next two years as they reorganize leadership and key roles during their annual organizational meeting.

The Board of Supervisors meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, to formally organize for 2026 and 2027, a process that includes naming leadership, making appointments, and adopting rules that guide how the board operates.

New leadership and key appointments

The meeting begins with routine business, after which the supervisors will move quickly into leadership decisions. The board plans to appoint a temporary chair and clerk before selecting a permanent chair to serve through 2026 and 2027.

After the chair is chosen, the board will recess briefly to administer the oath of office. Members will then return to regular business and appoint a permanent clerk.

Several other appointments are also on the agenda. Supervisors will name a finance director, public defender, county attorney, and a jury board member. The board will also designate a majority leader.

Rules and official designations

Before wrapping up, the board will decide which newspapers will serve as the county’s official publications, as required by state law.

Supervisors will also vote to adopt rules of order that will govern how meetings are run for the next two years.

The meeting concludes with a special order of the day, which allows the board to address additional matters if needed.
