New DA takes oath in Schuyler

A packed courtroom watched a leadership handoff as Jeremy Hourihan took the oath as Schuyler County’s new district attorney, according to county officials. More than 75 people gathered Thursday afternoon for the ceremony in Watkins Glen.

Hourihan steps up after serving as chief assistant DA since 2020. He succeeds Joseph Fazzary, who chose not to seek re-election after 28 years in the role. Fazzary recruited Hourihan from Chemung County six years ago and helped plan the transition.

Schuyler County Judge Matthew Hayden administered the oath as Hourihan’s wife, Lynsey, held the Bible. Hourihan told the crowd he now feels ready for the responsibility and committed to serving residents carefully.
