Police: Man threw video game console at mother, seriously injures infant

Police arrested a man after a two-month-old child was hospitalized with severe head injuries in Auburn.

Jason L. Brown, born Sept. 19, 1992, faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation by the Auburn Police Department.

Officers were called to Auburn Community Hospital on December 30 after medical staff reported injuries consistent with possible child abuse.

Detectives learned Brown had been involved in a domestic incident with his girlfriend, who is also the child’s mother. Police said Brown threw a video game console hard drive at her while she was holding the infant.

Investigators said the hard drive struck the child in the head, causing serious injuries. The child was later transferred to Upstate University Medical Hospital due to the severity of those injuries.

Police said the infant suffered a skull fracture and a brain bleed and remains hospitalized.

During the investigation, detectives also learned Brown allegedly possessed firearms he could not legally own. A search warrant at his residence led to the seizure of a Taurus semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine and two AR-style rifles.

Brown was charged with second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Police said additional charges may be forthcoming.

Officers processed Brown and transported him to the Cayuga County Jail for CAP arraignment.

Police remind the public that people arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
