The Buffalo Bills are exploring a familiar AFC East option as they look to bolster their pass rush ahead of the postseason.
Buffalo is expected to bring in veteran edge rusher Matthew Judon after the 10th-year pro was released by the Miami Dolphins earlier this week and cleared waivers. Judon visited the Bills on Friday, per the NFL transactions wire, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the team intends to sign him to the practice squad.
Judon, 33, was reportedly interested in joining a playoff contender, making the Bills a logical destination as they move closer to securing a seventh consecutive trip to the postseason.
The Bills are searching for reinforcements on the edge after losing Michael Hoecht and rookie Landon Jackson to season-ending injuries. Currently, Joey Bosa, Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, and Javon Solomon make up the defensive end group, though Solomon’s role on defense has been limited in recent weeks. Buffalo has also experimented with rookie defensive tackle T.J. Sanders lining up outside to generate pressure.
While the Bills’ pass rush has been efficient, the production has been spread out. Buffalo owns a solid sack rate, but no defender has consistently taken over games, with Bosa leading the team with five sacks.
Judon was once among the league’s most productive pass rushers, recording 28 sacks over two seasons with New England and earning four Pro Bowl selections. His output has slowed in recent years, including a sackless stint in Miami, but Buffalo is hoping his experience and pedigree can provide a late-season boost.
