Mets to sign former Yankees reliever Luke Weaver to 2-year, $22M deal

The Mets are continuing to overhaul their bullpen, and their latest move brings another former Yankee to Queens.

According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, New York is in the process of completing a two-year, $22 million agreement with right-hander Luke Weaver.

Weaver, 32, emerged as an unexpected difference-maker for the Yankees in 2024. He seized the closer’s role late in the season and carried that momentum into October, playing a key part in the club’s run to the World Series. That performance elevated his profile heading into the following year.

After the Yankees acquired Devin Williams last offseason, Weaver shifted back into a setup role. His 2025 campaign was uneven, as injuries and inconsistency limited his effectiveness during the regular season. His struggles continued in the postseason, where he surrendered five runs while recording just one out across three appearances.

Now, Weaver reunites with Williams in Queens. The Mets signed Williams to a three-year, $51 million deal earlier this offseason, with Edwin Díaz departing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, positioning Williams as the likely closer. The roster also includes Clay Holmes, who opened 2024 as the Yankees’ closer before Weaver assumed the role.
