The Beverly Animal Shelter in Waterloo will shut down in April 2026 after more than 30 years in operation, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Board members announced the closure after property owner Caitlin Reese issued a 90-day lease termination. Reese inherited the building after founder Dallyn Jenkins’ death in 2024. The board says it offered to buy the property, but Reese disputes receiving a formal offer and says her goal remains helping animals.
New state regulations and the shelter’s ineligibility for grants due to lack of property ownership also factored into the decision. The shelter is now focused on rehoming all remaining animals.
