Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed a bill to help communities like Aurora recover after local colleges shut down, according to The Citizen.
The new law allows the state to offer technical help with workforce planning, property reuse, and economic development. It was championed by Sen. Rachel May after Cazenovia and Wells colleges closed in her district. While Hochul requested some revisions, the measure passed unanimously in both chambers.
Lawmakers are expected to amend the bill’s language in the 2026 session to reflect the governor’s changes.
