Tage Thompson found the back of the net for the fourth straight game as the Buffalo Sabres closed their six-game road trip with a 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night at Climate Pledge Arena. The victory was Buffalo’s third in a row and lifted the Sabres to 14-14-4. After opening the trip with three straight losses, Buffalo rebounded to finish 3-3-0 away from home.
Noah Ostlund opened the scoring late in the first period, converting a give-and-go with Josh Norris on a 2-on-1 rush. Ostlund one-timed Norris’ return feed from the right circle to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 17:09.
The Sabres doubled the advantage early in the second when Thompson capped a 2-on-0 rush. After Alex Tuch intercepted a clearing attempt at the Seattle blue line, Peyton Krebs slid a pass across the crease that Thompson tucked under Joey Daccord’s left pad at 10:08.
Seattle pulled within one on a power-play goal by Chandler Stephenson midway through the second, but Buffalo tightened up defensively the rest of the way. Zach Benson sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 46 seconds remaining.
Thompson now has four goals and three assists during his four-game scoring streak. Tuch recorded two assists, and Alex Lyon stopped 23 shots.
The Sabres return home to host the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
