Raw milk from Galen Burkholder’s farm in Branchport tested positive for salmonella, prompting a state health warning, according to the Finger Lakes Times. No illnesses have been reported yet, but the producer is now banned from selling milk until further tests show it’s safe.
The contamination was confirmed Dec. 8 following an earlier positive test on Dec. 1. Officials urge anyone who bought the milk to throw it out and contact the farm.
Raw milk lacks pasteurization, which kills harmful bacteria linked to serious illnesses.
