A developer is offering $1 million to buy Loomis Woods, a long-unused 15-acre city-owned parcel, according to Finger Lakes Times.
Dan McGowan, a retired professor and real estate investor, first tried to buy the land in 2021 for $200,000. The city rejected that bid, citing the parcel’s parkland status and educational use. Now, McGowan has returned with a much bigger offer—or a discounted price plus 22 acres of his own land for park use.
City Council voted 8-1 to hold a public hearing on Jan. 4. Selling the land would require a formal park reclassification and state legislative approval, a process officials say won’t be quick.
