Bills kicker Tyler Bass undergoes season-ending surgery

Tyler Bass’ season is officially over. The Buffalo Bills kicker underwent surgery to address hip and groin injuries suffered during the preseason, ending his 2025 campaign, head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Monday. The team had initially expected the injury to improve, but continued setbacks led to the decision.

Bass was hurt during training camp and missed Buffalo’s first two preseason contests before briefly returning for the third exhibition game against Tampa Bay. He went 3-of-4 on field-goal attempts that night, but a late 26-yard miss underscored his physical limitations. The Bills placed him on injured reserve soon after, where he has remained for the entire regular season.

Buffalo turned to veteran Matt Prater before Week 1, and the 41-year-old has stabilized the position. Prater delivered a game-winning 32-yarder in the season opener against Baltimore and has been reliable since, connecting on 17-of-19 field goals and 34-of-37 extra points. With Bass now officially sidelined, Prater is set to finish the year as the Bills’ primary kicker.

Bass signed a four-year extension in April 2023 but has converted only 82.8 percent of his field goal attempts since.
