Assemblyman Robert Smullen just became the first Republican to launch a bid for Rep. Elise Stefanik’s soon-to-be-vacant North Country seat, according to the Times Union. His campaign leans into Trump-style conservatism and promises more rural investment, broadband, and veteran support.
Smullen, a Marine Corps veteran from Fulton County, says he’s ready for a primary fight, with GOP rivals like Joe Pinion and possibly Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino circling the race.
Democrats face long odds in the deep-red district but have two hopefuls running: Dylan Hewitt and Blake Gendebien.
