Holding two town meetings at the same time in different locations broke New York’s Open Meetings Law, according to the state’s Committee on Open Government, Finger Lakes Times reported.
On Nov. 18, Fayette’s Town Board met at town offices while the Planning Board held a public hearing at the fire hall — both overlapping. Residents protested, especially those opposed to a permit for a seasonal bar at Seneca Ridge, which was later approved with conditions.
Town officials cited scheduling conflicts, but critics say the move silenced public input. No legal action is planned, but residents now plan to file a formal zoning complaint.
