Lucas Vineyards is celebrating a massive win on the global stage after dominating this year’s International Eastern Wine Competition with multiple top awards and double gold medals.
The Interlaken-based winery earned “Best Sparkling Wine” for its Extra Dry Sparkling Wine, “Best Dessert Wine” for its 2024 Riesling Iced Wine, “Best Dry Riesling” for its 2022 Dry Riesling, and “Best Red Wine” for its 2023 Reserve Cabernet Franc.
All four of those wines received Double Gold Medals — as did the winery’s 2023 Reserve Syrah and 2024 Vidal Iced Wine. The 2024 Seyval Blanc also brought home a Gold Medal.
“This competition was the perfect way to close out an exceptional year,” said the Lucas team. In total, Lucas Vineyards produced 17 gold-medal-winning wines in five different competitions throughout 2025.
One of the region’s trailblazers
Founded in 1980 by Ruth Lucas, Lucas Vineyards was the first winery on Cayuga Lake and one of the pioneers of the now-famous Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. Ruth’s vision helped shape the Finger Lakes into one of the most respected wine regions in the country.
Today, winemakers Jeff Houck and Mitchell Alger are building on that legacy with award-winning vintages that continue to turn heads across the industry.
The International Eastern Wine Competition, established in 1975, is one of the longest-running and most respected wine competitions in the U.S. This year’s event included entries from 35 states and 14 countries across Europe, Central and South America.
Lucas Vineyards is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be found online at lucasvineyards.com.
