Cayuga County museum faces cuts under proposed budget

The Ward W. O’Hara Agricultural & Country Living Museum in Owasco may reduce its operating hours and cancel events if the newly proposed 2026 budget by Cayuga County Legislature Chair Jonathan Anna takes effect. According to The Citizen, the budget puts the museum’s funding at risk, forcing it to consider cuts.

The cuts would come amid broader financial stress for the county, which is looking at revenue shortfalls and increasing demand for services.

The museum, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, has warned that reduced hours and cancelled events would hamper its ability to serve the public and preserve local agricultural history.
