Former Legion leader admits to stealing over $100K

A former leader of the Geneva American Legion post has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 from the organization over a six-year period.

On Monday, November 3, Dale Henry Mosher, 65, of Geneva, entered a guilty plea to second-degree grand larceny, a class C felony. Prosecutors say he took the money between January 2017 and May 2023 while involved with the post.

Mosher is expected to be sentenced on January 22, 2026, to 3 to 9 years in prison. As part of the deal, he must repay restitution not covered by insurance and will be barred from contacting several individuals, including those he allegedly sent threatening mail to.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police handled the investigation, which was prosecuted by Acting District Attorney Kelly Wolford and heard by Judge Victoria Argento.

“Today’s plea will hopefully provide some closure to the members of the American Legion, past and present, who have watched this amazing organization navigate the horrendous financial impact Mosher’s actions had on the Legion,” said Wolford. “With Mosher taking accountability, the Legion can return to their mission serving veterans and children in the Greater Geneva community.”

Wolford added that the sentence should serve as a warning: “Your crimes will be investigated, prosecuted, and you will ultimately face the consequences.”
