Walworth Town Board approves local law revising sewer code

The Walworth Town Board held a special meeting on October 31 to adopt changes to Chapter 139 of the town code related to sewer use. The board unanimously approved Local Law No. 4-2025 following a brief public hearing.

The law updates the town’s sewer code to align with the planned decommissioning of the Walworth Treatment Plant and the transition of the town’s sewer system operations and maintenance to the Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority. According to the public hearing notice, the revisions are intended to bring consistency with this transition and modernize the code accordingly.

Town Supervisor Rick Johnson called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. Roll call showed that Councilwoman Linton, Councilman Jefferson, and Councilman Kelly were present. Councilman Hardin and Highway Superintendent Kevin Switzer were absent.

A public hearing on the proposed local law began at 4:03 p.m. Supervisor Johnson read the public hearing procedures before opening the floor to public comment. No members of the public spoke during the hearing. The hearing was then closed by board vote.

Following the hearing, the board voted unanimously to approve Resolution 161-25, adopting Local Law No. 4-2025. The roll call vote recorded affirmative votes from Councilwoman Linton, Councilman Jefferson, Councilman Kelly, and Supervisor Johnson.

There were no committee reports, no new or other business, no public participation, and no executive session held during the meeting.

Supervisor Johnson announced upcoming town meetings, including budget workshops scheduled for November 3, 10, and 17 at 6 p.m., and regular town board meetings on November 6, November 20, and December 4 at 6:30 p.m., all to be held at Walworth Town Hall.

The meeting adjourned shortly after the resolution was passed.
