RG&E wants to spend $5.1 billion to expand the electric grid — and Finger Lakes customers could foot the bill, according to RochesterFirst.
The investment aims to meet rising energy demand and comply with a 2026 state law requiring all new buildings under seven stories to use electric heat and appliances. Officials say the upgrades are urgent but could take 2–3 years to begin.
RG&E says it’s proposing a multi-year rate plan to ease the hit to consumers while supporting New York’s climate goals and growing population.
