Grocery giants like DoorDash and Uber Eats are pressuring Gov. Kathy Hochul to weaken a bill that would force them to disclose when online prices are higher than in-store, according to Spectrum News 1.
Sen. James Skoufis blasted the companies in a letter to Hochul, accusing them of acting in bad faith after they previously helped shape the bill. The companies now say the bill is “unworkable” and want vague disclaimers instead of clear disclosures.
Skoufis warned that gutting the bill would keep consumers in the dark about hidden markups. Hochul hasn’t said whether she’ll sign or amend it — but pressure is mounting on both sides.
