A convicted sex offender who fled court earlier this year has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for a string of violent felony crimes, including the rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Daniel Sevigny, 43, was sentenced October 1 in Ontario County Court. He will also serve 25 years of post-release supervision.
Sevigny pleaded guilty to three separate felonies: rape in the first degree, attempted rape in the first degree, and assault in the second degree.
Prosecutors say he raped the child in 2023, then cut off his ankle monitor and fled while awaiting sentencing. During that time, he committed another attempted rape before being caught by Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies.
While in jail, Sevigny assaulted another inmate. He pleaded guilty to all charges and received consecutive sentences.
Sevigny was already classified as a level three sex offender for past convictions including rape, sexual abuse, and sodomy.
“Daniel Sevigny is a horrifying example of the most dangerous type of sexual predator,” said Assistant District Attorney Victoria Porter. “One who simply cannot, and will not, control his sexually violent behavior.”
District Attorney Jim Ritts praised law enforcement for capturing Sevigny quickly and said the sentence was critical for community safety.
