New York weighs legalizing iGaming

New York lawmakers are eyeing online casino games to boost revenue and rein in illegal gambling, according to Spectrum News 1.

Sen. Joe Addabbo says the state loses up to $1 billion a year by not legalizing iGaming, while other states cash in. He argues it could help close budget gaps and bring oversight to risky underground markets.

But unions warn it could gut jobs at physical casinos—just like Off-Track Betting once did to racetracks. Problem gambling advocates also flagged concerns about easy access and lack of player safeguards.
