Oak Hill to host 2035 PGA Championship, marking a major milestone for Rochester

The PGA of America is bringing one of golf’s biggest events back to Oak Hill Country Club in 2035 — its fifth time hosting the PGA Championship and a moment of pride for Rochester.

Oak Hill joins an elite group of venues to host the championship five times, just behind Southern Hills in Tulsa, which will have hosted six by 2032.

The announcement was part of a broader reveal from the PGA of America on Tuesday, naming three future championship sites across New York State. Bethpage Black on Long Island will host the 2028 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2033 PGA Championship. Oak Hill’s turn comes in 2035.

A long history of championship golf

Oak Hill’s East Course has a deep championship legacy. It most recently hosted the 2023 PGA Championship, where Brooks Koepka captured his third Wanamaker Trophy. He joined legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players with three or more PGA Championship wins in the stroke play era.

Other PGA champions at Oak Hill include Jason Dufner (2013), Shaun Micheel (2003), and Jack Nicklaus (1980).

Beyond the PGA, Oak Hill has also hosted three U.S. Opens, a Ryder Cup, two Senior PGAs, and a U.S. Senior Open — cementing its reputation as one of golf’s most tested and historic venues.

‘A world-class setting’

Ron Billitier, president of Oak Hill Country Club, called the news “an exciting opportunity to test the world’s best golfers in an iconic and world-class setting.” He credited the course’s recent restoration and the Rochester community’s support as key reasons the championship is returning.

“The East Course, our membership, and the Greater Rochester community welcome the opportunity,” Billitier said in a statement. “We’re confident our fifth [PGA Championship] will set a new standard and honor a worthy champion.”

Restored and ready

The East Course was originally designed by famed architect Donald Ross in 1926. In 2019, it underwent a major restoration led by Andrew Green, aimed at bringing it closer to Ross’s original vision while preparing it for modern championship play.
