Phelps is now home to a major clean energy project, thanks to a new community solar installation from Catalyze and CS Energy.
The project is one of four that went online this week across New York, bringing a total of 27 megawatts of solar power to the state’s energy grid. The Phelps site is part of a larger eight-project effort aimed at expanding affordable solar access to local communities — without requiring residents to install panels themselves.
Clean energy, local benefits
The Phelps installation was designed to support both clean energy goals and local farmland. Crews carefully managed access roads and construction areas to preserve farming operations around the site. The system feeds power directly into the grid and is backed by New York’s Inclusive Community Solar Adder program, which helps lower energy costs for low-to-moderate income subscribers.
“These projects are about more than megawatts,” said Andrew D’Amico, COO at Catalyze. “We’re seeing businesses move fast to lock in the long-term benefits of solar power.”
CS Energy, the engineering firm behind the project, says community solar is proving to be one of the most effective tools for bringing clean, reliable power to homes and businesses.
More projects on the way
Four more community solar installations — totaling another 25 MW — are set to roll out in the coming year as part of the same Catalyze-CS Energy partnership.
