The Village of Penn Yan Board will meet Tuesday evening, September 16, to tackle a packed agenda that includes event approvals, staffing updates at the water treatment plant, and several public works projects.
The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in Room 202 at Village Hall on Elm Street.
What’s on the agenda?
Event approvals and updates
Trustees are expected to approve requests for several upcoming events, including:
- The 14th Annual Saint Michael School Turkey Trot (Nov. 27)
- Penn Yan Academy’s Homecoming Parade (Sept. 27)
- Trunk or Treat on October 18 (barricades and street closure updates)
- Fall Festival on November 1 (updated supply request)
- Yates County Chamber of Commerce Scarecrow Contest (Oct. 6–Nov. 3)
Annexation and zoning
The board will consider a motion to set a public hearing for finalizing the annexation of YCRR property and designating it as R-1 (Single Family Residential) zoning.
Municipal utilities and water projects
A series of motions (MUB1–MUB10) include:
- Purchasing wood poles and fire hydrants
- Change orders on the lead service line inventory project
- Sewer bill forgiveness requests
- Setting a hearing on a new sewer project
- Approving cybersecurity training and fuel station upgrades
Personnel changes and appointments
Thirteen administrative motions (AD1–AD13) cover various appointments, resignations, and training authorizations, including:
- A new chief water treatment plant operator
- A stipend for a second-in-command
- Hiring and recruitment for deputy clerk
- Approving a new shredding services contract
Public safety
The board will vote on approving Michael Clancy as 3rd Assistant Fire Chief and review monthly activity reports from fire, police, and code enforcement.
Public works updates
Fall brush and leaf pickup dates were announced, and the board will consider:
- Paving updates and sidewalk construction
- Approving a bike repair station at the boat launch
- Authorizing engineering work for the firehouse addition
- Declaring the Village Hall generator as surplus
The Streets Department also plans to attend the NYS Highway & Public Works Expo later this fall.
