Steuben County Sheriff’s Office passes key state accreditation audit

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office has successfully completed its latest accreditation audit by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), according to a release from Sheriff Jim Allard.

The audit focused on hiring practices and law enforcement misconduct reporting — two mandatory standards for police agencies across the state.

“These standards are important because they help to reinforce the credibility between our agency and the community we’re sworn to serve and protect,” Sheriff Allard said. “It helps to ensure professionalism, integrity, leadership, and service — the pillars of our core values.”

The DCJS audit process is designed to make sure departments maintain high accountability and transparency in critical areas of operation. Agencies must pass regular audits to retain accreditation status.

The Sheriff’s Office says it remains committed to meeting the public safety needs of Steuben County residents in the most effective and efficient way possible.
