Robot matches human skill in vineyard disease scouting

A new robot developed at Cornell AgriTech can spot grapevine diseases as accurately as expert human scouts—and it does it solo, according to the Cornell Chronicle.

Called the PhytoPatholoBot, the AI-powered rover rolls through vineyards, scanning grape canopies and identifying diseases like powdery mildew in near-real time. It compares images with GPS and NASA remote sensing data to map infection severity and location, helping growers target treatments more precisely.

Tested across multiple states, the robot proved efficient, low-power, and ready for broader use—including in crops like apples.
