President Donald Trump visited Yankee Stadium on Thursday evening, greeting the New York Yankees in their clubhouse before the team’s 9/11 anniversary game against the Detroit Tigers.
Trump, who arrived shortly after 6 p.m., met with players and staff roughly 30 minutes before first pitch, offering encouragement and joking with stars such as Aaron Judge. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he was “excited” about the visit, calling it a unique opportunity for the team.
The appearance marked Trump’s first Major League Baseball game since attending the 2021 World Series and his first at Yankee Stadium since leaving office. Entering his suite just before game time, Trump received a mixed but mostly positive reception, with loud chants of “U-S-A” echoing through the ballpark. He did not participate in pregame 9/11 ceremonies but was shown on the stadium’s big screen during the national anthem and again in the second inning, saluting as cheers and some boos rang out.
Security at Yankee Stadium was heightened ahead of Trump’s arrival, with Secret Service agents and increased screening for fans.
Next season, the Yankees and New York Mets will face off at Yankee Stadium on the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
