Onondaga County adds room tax to Airbnb, Vrbo stays

Travelers booking short-term rentals in Onondaga County will now pay more, after lawmakers approved a new room tax, according to CNY Central.

The local law adds a 2% occupancy tax to Airbnb and Vrbo rentals, aligning with a state initiative targeting stays over $2 per day. All but one county legislator supported the move.

Officials also greenlit funding for software to track rentals, with a full report due in 2027.
