Geneva City Council will tackle a wide range of topics Wednesday night, including future plans for Clark Street Park, sidewalk improvements, and how to handle rising city debt. Councilors will also begin setting the stage for the 2026 city budget with new proposals and public hearing dates.
The public portion of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 47 Castle St., following a proposed executive session at 6 p.m. to discuss the employment of a particular person.
Presentations and financial updates
Council will hear a presentation from the United Way regarding ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) data, followed by an overview of the city’s debt by Comptroller Adam Blowers.
Comptroller Blowers is also scheduled to present multiple items under new business, including:

- A resolution to set a public hearing to override the property tax cap,
- A resolution to amend bond issuances for public improvements.
Policy discussions and infrastructure
The agenda includes several discussion topics:
- ATAD bids and next steps, led by Comptroller Blowers and Director Venuti,
- Clark Street Park alienation and sidewalk matters, both introduced by Councilor Petropoulos.
Under unfinished business, council will conduct second readings of two ordinances:
- One amending Chapter 273-33 on alternative dumping and storing violation procedures,
- Another amending Chapter 277 on sanitary sewers and sump pump regulations.
A new ordinance is also up for first reading that would amend Chapter 350-7.10 related to fences, hedges, and walls.
Public comment and procedural matters
The meeting will include a public comment period, during which residents can speak for up to three minutes on any topic. Additionally, council will consider appointments to boards and commissions, and provide updates through mayor and councilor reports.
Future budget considerations
This meeting marks one of several leading up to the formal presentation of the 2026 budget on Sept. 9, followed by a public hearing scheduled for October. The council is expected to continue deliberating financial priorities as it moves toward final budget adoption by Oct. 31.
