Hospital invites faith leaders for interfaith event

UR Medicine Thompson Health is bringing local religious leaders together this fall — and they’re hoping it sparks lasting partnerships.

The hospital’s Spiritual Care Department will host an interfaith gathering on Friday, Oct. 10, at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. The event runs from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Thompson Conference Center on the hospital’s ground floor.

Pastors, priests, rabbis, imams, and other faith leaders from across the region are invited. The goal? Building deeper relationships with the spiritual leaders already supporting community members during tough times.

“This event offers a unique opportunity to visit our hospital and learn more about how we are serving our community — patients, families, and staff alike,” said Rev. Janice D. Lum, director of Spiritual Care and one of four chaplains at the hospital.

The event includes light refreshments, networking time, and an open forum. Lum and her team want to strengthen ties with local clergy and better coordinate support for patients’ spiritual needs.

“We believe spiritual care is a vital part of holistic healing,” Lum said. “Together, we want to explore how we can better support those in need — body, mind, and spirit.”
