Canandaigua woman charged in identity theft investigation

Deputies arrested a Canandaigua woman Monday after they say she used someone else’s identity to rent an apartment and skip out on thousands of dollars in unpaid rent and utilities.

Nichelle Beale, 48, was taken into custody at her home on County Road 28 just after noon on August 25. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says Beale rented an apartment at Candlewood Apartments using another person’s identity between May and mid-August.

Investigators say Beale never paid rent or utility bills, racking up over $6,000 in unpaid charges. She was charged with first-degree identity theft and taken to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment in CAP Court.

The case was investigated by Investigator LaBrake, with help from Deputies Smith, Marlow, and Fitzgerald.
