Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released a statement Thursday applauding a New York appeals court ruling that overturned a $464 million civil fraud judgment against former President Donald J. Trump.
Calling it a “resounding victory for justice,” Stefanik, who chairs the House Republican Conference, criticized New York Attorney General Letitia James and the original trial judge, accusing them of political bias and judicial misconduct.
“This sham case… has been exposed for what it always was: a blatant abuse of power and weaponization of our judicial system,” Stefanik said.
Stefanik previously filed ethics complaints against Judge Arthur Engoron and sought the disbarment of Attorney General James. She said she would continue to lead efforts in Congress to address what she calls “illegal weaponized lawfare tactics” targeting political opponents.
The overturned judgment was tied to a case brought by the Attorney General alleging civil fraud in Trump’s business dealings.
