Bath man arrested after shoplifting call leads to foot chase

Police in Bath arrested a local man earlier this month after responding to a shoplifting complaint at Save A Lot that turned into a brief foot pursuit.

Officers say the incident happened on August 2. When they arrived, the suspect had already left the store. Village of Bath Police and New York State Police began searching the area and soon found someone matching the description.

When they approached the man—later identified as 61-year-old Warren Hoffman—he allegedly fled, prompting a short chase. Officers quickly detained him and contacted store staff.

Save A Lot declined to press shoplifting charges, requesting only that Hoffman be trespassed. However, police charged him with Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a Class A misdemeanor.

Hoffman was processed at the Bath Police Department and released on an appearance ticket. He is due back in Bath Village Court at a later date.
