Health officials in Cayuga County say they’re ready if the nation’s worst measles outbreak in 30 years reaches the area, according to The Citizen.
There are no local cases yet, but nearby Ontario County has reported one. Most U.S. cases involve unvaccinated people, and Cayuga County’s MMR vaccination rate — 87.4% — falls short of the 95% needed for herd immunity.
If measles hits, the county plans to trace exposure, confirm cases quickly, and possibly host emergency vaccine clinics.
