A drop in water levels is pushing Interlaken residents to cut back on usage. A new conservation order took effect Wednesday, urging anyone on the village water system to save every drop they can.
The Seneca County Health Department and Village of Interlaken issued the advisory after warm, dry weather reduced the village’s water supply. The order is in place until further notice.
Health officials are asking residents to do their part by limiting water use at home. That includes only running full loads in dishwashers and washing machines, checking for leaks, and taking shorter showers. People are also being told not to leave the tap running while brushing teeth or washing dishes, and not to wash their cars with village water.
The full list of water-saving tips includes using single-use plates and utensils to reduce dishwashing, keeping bottled water in the fridge instead of running the tap for cold water, and using laundromats in other towns if possible.
Residents with questions can call the Village of Interlaken Water Department at 607-532-8882 or the Seneca County Health Department at 315-539-1945.
