Lytle caught off guard by clerk appointment plan

Kristine Lytle learned from a news article—not lawmakers—that the Cayuga County Legislature plans to name her acting county clerk, according to The Citizen.

Lytle, a longtime DMV employee and unopposed candidate in November’s special election, said she was surprised to see the appointment moving forward without recent communication. Lawmakers claim both Lytle and the current acting clerk, Shelley Patterson, previously supported the idea, though Lytle now says the timing won’t work—she’s on vacation in early September.

She hopes to revisit the plan with county leaders soon.
