Following the abrupt resignation of County Clerk Brian Scanlan, the Cayuga County Republican Committee has endorsed Kristine Lytle for the position, anticipating a special election.
Lytle, a DMV employee, previously ran as a Conservative candidate in 2023.
With the county’s top two clerk officials unavailable, second deputy clerk Shelley Patterson is handling duties, with assistance from Oswego County.
While Gov. Kathy Hochul could appoint a replacement, a special election is expected to determine who will serve the remainder of Scanlan’s term, which runs through 2027.
