One facing felony charges after deputy assaulted, hospitalized

A late-night overdose report in Springport ended with a deputy injured and a man facing felony charges.

Randy A. Grader, 46, was arrested Aug. 2 after deputies say he punched a deputy in the face while hallucinating.

Deputies and state troopers arrived on Cross Road around 11:39 p.m. and found Grader on the ground in an altered state. As they gathered information, deputies say he stood up and attacked, knocking a deputy to the ground.

Grader was charged with second-degree assault, menacing, resisting arrest, and obstruction. The deputy was treated and released from Auburn Community Hospital.

Grader was also treated for the overdose and taken to jail without bail.
