Ex-judge must pay $200K for harassment

A federal jury has found former Broome County Family Court Judge Rick Miller liable for sexually harassing his secretary, according to WIVT. The jury awarded Rachel Gallagher $200,000 in damages after hearing graphic testimony about Miller’s conduct.

Gallagher and another court employee alleged the judge created a hostile environment through inappropriate sexual comments, explicit images, and threats of violence. Miller was reassigned in 2017 and removed from the bench in 2020.

He now works in private law. The jury did not award damages to the second plaintiff or find the court system at fault.
