Two dogs killed, man charged after rifle incident

A Herkimer County man is facing charges after two dogs were fatally shot and he allegedly pointed a rifle at bystanders, according to CNY Central.

Mark W. Boyce, 43, was arrested after troopers responded to reports of gunfire on August 3 in the town of Russia. Police say the dogs had wandered onto Boyce’s property, where he claimed they threatened his goats. One died on the scene; the other later at a vet.

Authorities say Boyce aimed a rifle at people attempting to help the injured animals, though no one was hurt. He’s charged with menacing and will appear in court August 20.
