Cayuga wind project faces fierce local backlash

Residents in Cayuga County voiced strong opposition to a proposed wind turbine project, arguing it’s being pushed through without public input.

The Agricola Wind Project, led by Liberty Renewables, would install 24 turbines in Scipio and Venice by 2027. At a public hearing, locals said the plan lacks transparency and local control, with one official estimating 80–90% of residents oppose it.

While Liberty says the project could bring community investment, critics fear their voices won’t change the outcome. The state will now review public comments before deciding whether the project will move forward.
