As media cutbacks sweep the nation, Rep. John Mannion is championing a bill to support local journalism, according to Spectrum News 1.
The Syracuse-area Democrat introduced the Local Journalism Sustainability Act in Congress, aiming to strengthen press freedom and protect independent reporting. He says the decline in community news is fueling political polarization and undermining democracy.
The push comes amid high-profile network shakeups, including CBS’s settlement with Donald Trump and cuts to NPR and PBS, which critics warn will hit rural news coverage hardest.
