Restoration crews are working to save the 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse after severe rot was found in its roof, according to the Democrat and Chronicle. Initial tests showed the wood was solid—but deeper inspection revealed major structural decay.
Now, an $850,000 exterior renovation is underway, supported by state and federal grants. The project includes rebuilding timber framing and roofing to closely match its 200-year-old origins. Work also includes restoring windows, doors, and siding.
Once completed, the meetinghouse—linked to abolition, women’s rights, and Native land advocacy—will serve as a center for education and public dialogue on social justice.
